Alyenka Chocolate

Produced by the Moscow-based Krasniy Oktyabr (Red October) confectioners since the mid 1960s, this is one of the most recognisable products on Russian shelves.

A competition was held to find a baby to model for the picture and it is supposed to be the daughter of one of the factory workers.

It's similar in taste to Cadbury's Dairy Milk, creamy and a little greasy, but the thinner construction of the bar makes it melt in the mouth more easily.

It's funny that the chocolate that I brought back for relatives in the UK for its 'Russian-ness' is now being brought over as gifts for me and my wife by Russian family.
